The Friends of Maplewood Nature Board members encourage all nature loving photographers, amateur or professional, young or old, to enter the Friends of Maplewood Nature 2015 Calendar Photography Contest. The contest is open to anyone! All you have to do is take a photo at one of the Maplewood Neighborhood Preserves or the Maplewood Nature Center, download an entry form (available on the 'Photography Contest' link on this page), and mail or drop off your entry at the Maplewood Nature Center:

There will be eleven $25 prizes and one $100 prize! The entry deadline is May 15th, 2014, so be sure to get out and start snapping those photos!

Join the discussion; learn more about our changing climate! Meet Dr. Mark Seeley, U of M Extension Climatologist, Author, and Commentator on Minnesota Public Radio's "Morning Edition" news program and have an opportunity to purchase one of Dr. Seeley's books.

We are pleased to welcome Mindy Breva as a future Friends of Maplewood Nature board member! Mindy comes to us through our work with MAP, and she brings strong fund raising and grant writing skills. We are excited to have her with us and look forward to working with her in the future. If you are interested in becoming a Friends board member or just helping out on a committee, please feel free to join us at a board meeting or call the nature center for more information.
Congratulations to the City of Maplewood on it's successful purchase of the Fish Creek open space. The Friends of Maplewood Nature is pleased to have been a sponsor during the purchase process, and excited to be a future sponsor as development of this precious natural resource continues into the future.

The Friends of Maplewood nature is currently busy working on several projects, one of which involves working with nature center staff to purchase technology upgrades for the nature center. We are also organizing a speaker for Earth Day to talk about climate change. Be sure to check out the nature center spring program brochure for more information as details are finalized.

Calendar Contest: The Friends Board is pleased to announce the grand prize winner of the 2014 Friends of Maplewood Nature Calendar Photo contest is Jean Zoch. Titled ‘Mother and Babies’, this beautiful shot of a female mallard duck and her ducklings on their nest graces the cover of the new calendar. We extend our congratulations to Jean as well as the other photo contest winners: Chris Hansen, Chris Wodicka, Corrie Madsen, Megan Fallo, and Colleen Schoenecker.
The 2014 calendars are now on sale! Order forms can be downloaded here by clicking on the 'Photography' tab, from the nature center website, or picked up at the nature center in person. Calendar orders will be mailed out on a monthly basis, so get your order in early as they make great holiday gifts!
